Trust

Take heart. You trust more people than you think.

It’s challenging to feel good about the earth and its inhabitants currently. Just yesterday, a woman gave me the finger because I hesitated for two seconds at a green light. She also mouthed “I hate you” from her car as she passed me. As a side note, she had a giant Starbucks Carmel Frappuccino in her hand. A giant Frappuccino shouldn’t really affect your perception of her, but it kind of does. And yes, it was caramel. I saw the drizzle.

In my last essay, I wrote about giving grace to witless drivers. And so, as the universe will often do, it tested me with a witless driver. Damn you, universe! FYI…you must be careful with proclamations that you announce to the world. Someone is always listening. Always.

My ‘give grace to everyone’ has been heartily tested recently, and not just with drivers. I thought I was doing well until I realized I hadn’t included my family members in my “give grace” resolution. It’s so easy to be a jerk in your home. I mean, where are these folks really going? You act like a moron, and there they are the following morning asking where the protein bars are? Real damage can certainly be done (of course), but usually nothing an “I’m sorry I acted like an ass-hat last night” wouldn’t cure. It’s magical how much people can love you.
